The first bicycle racing at the ground was at Glossop Cricket Club's annual sports which was held on Wednesday 21st September 1870 during Wakes week. The town was full of amusements stalls and rides, including merry-go-rounds and circular railways. The Wakes sports drew a large crowd, but the bicycle race had only one entry, GB Colbeck from Ashton, who had a walkover. There was dancing through the evening to the Glossop Amateur Brass Band.
The cricket club annual Wakes Week sports were held at the ground throughout the 1870s. At the sports on 20th May 1876 there were 200 entries for the 17 events. There was one bicycle race, a one mile open handicap with ten competitors, which required two heats. The prizes totalled £70 and these were paid by to competitors by cheques from a Manchester jewellers and distributed after the event at the Norfolk Arms. 4,000 people attended the meeting and there was a grandstand which held 500 spectators. Refreshment tents were hosted by the Beehive and the Grapes public houses
The cricket club held the 5th Grand Athletic Festival on Saturday June 22nd 1878 and around 3,000 spectators attended. There were eleven events, mostly running races but there was a one mile open handicap bicycle race, nine entered buy only five competed. This was an exciting race with Dan Dixon of Miles Platting off 25 yards, just managed to hold off the scratch man Arthur Smith of Manchester for a first prize of £4.
This was the last time that bicycle races were held on the Norfolk Street ground. The ground was considered "too small and difficult to use, on match days the field was surrounded by canvas, but this did not stop enterprising young boys entering without payment." The club moved in 1880 to a new ground on North Road.
The cricket club site has been developed for housing along the area of King Edward Avenue and for the Duke of Norfolk Church of England Primary School.
